A Guide to Helping you get the most from your Scanned Signatures

Following a few easy steps can help you get a good quality and natural result when scanning your name or signature.
When placing your order online we will email to request your scans - once received, we email a new PDF proof
for you to check before we go ahead. Now, what's wrong here?

Type of pen?

faded scan

We recommend using a solid-flowing black pen - biro-type pens may not always give the best result as your scanner may not pick up the finer, lighter details as above. That said, if you keep your signing style solid, it should be fine.

Do they need to be separate scans or all together?

Team Signatures

Separate will mean you get your proof back quicker - however, grouped on one sheet of A4 is fine.
We can separate & move as required.

Scanner Settings to Use?

Scanner Settings

When firing up your scanner software the first step may be to come out of 'full auto' (or equivalent) mode. Some may list a home, advanced or professional mode - try one of these for more options. The main thing is to choose either Colour or Grey-scale mode, never "black & white" or "line-art" - these settings will lose any shading and make it look photocopied.

The next vital option is to find the Resolution and set that to 300dpi (dots per inch).
Less vital is the 'scale' setting, but if you find it, set that to 100%.

Colour Mode Comparison

Below is a grey-scale scan, which looks nice and natural, as close to hand-written as possible...

However, you can see on the following scan, even though the resolution was set to 300dpi,
it was set to 'Black & White' and produces an unpleasant, blocky result.

Lastly, what formats do we accept? Almost any, if the above procedures have been followed! Check your file by zooming in on it once you have completed. Bear in mind, we can 'clean' up your image (at no charge), however, it's best to start with a high quality scan.

And remember, we will email a new proof for you to check - we don't go ahead until you're happy with it!
